    Club...what? Club coming together.

I met with the super stylish Vilma T Canas in Los Angeles yesterday to discuss costume ideas for the new Club Bellydance Show.  I am delighted to report that I am so looking forward to the design and finale product I am absolutely gity with excitement. Her workshop is like heaven for a dancer… rhinestones, fringe, and rolls of iridescent leopard print.  Every space that my eye could see was filled with sexy.  Her costumes are candies.  My goal is to be  as decadent as a passion fruit. so I am lucky that she is with me on this.   We discussed many details including how an important aspect of the design is that it has to be capable for a lickidy split costume change. This tour I will have to make a power costume.  This is not a complaint but a  beautiful thing because it is like a mini dance between two different dances just done off stage with hopefully no one looking.  Thursday we are set up for a meeting downtown to make the finale choices on fabric. I will post some picts soon, suspense suspense suspense : )

There is only one obstacle to the vision… I am thinking dress and I know that a dress is a concepts that doesn’t quite make Miles’s list.  I have added this picture that I love because it was taken at a BDSS photo shoot last year.  It captured intimate moment between artist and producer.  In the fore ground Mr. Copeland’s arm gesturing strong and with authority and me the artist working out bring my essence in the assimilation.  Deep huh?

I think that I am pretty set on my solo musical choice, but I am not spilling the beans quite yet…. a lady always reserves the right to change her mind. :)  I did listen to the “Walk like an Egyptian” track from Desert Rose three like seven hundred and forty seven times…in a row.  In this song seem to lie a choreographic challenge and it is a temptation that I almost can’t resist. The idea has been tossed to incorporate it as a group piece in the new show.   One moment I love it and one moment I hate it.  But I am almost convinced that if done right it could be a piece that you will be talking about over coffee the next day saying “OMG can you believe what those awesome Club Bellydance girls pulled off… incredible.”  I might have delusion of grandeur but I think that is what keeps my clock ticking so I am going with it.

I would really like to hear from you on this.  What kind of challenges do you like?  Do you think I should take a chance… or play it safe.  The track is good, but is it great?

Happy dancing to all the beautiful people and I will catch up with you soon.

    Club Bellydance

    Stefanya 1:45 pm on August 2, 2011 | 4 Permalink | Reply

StefanyaWow, August already… it is exciting to think that our new Bellydance tour “Club Bellydance” is right around the corner.  First off I feel privileged to be touring with such a solid group of dancers.  Sabah, Moria, Colleen and Victoria each have their own unique beautiful style and they bring so much to the stage.  I know that we will be bringing out the best in each other.  BDSS tours are always like a family, but in the previous tours we have been in groups of 13 plus so this time around I have a feeling that we will come together like never before.  I really can’t say enough about theses dancers… they are fabulous but… I am sure you already know that.

With this new “Club Bellydance” tour I do feel like there is more pressure then before.   I started with the BDSS in 2005  performing as chore company member and it was with the Bombay Bellywood tour that I was promoted to a principal  position.  I have only just started to get my feet wet as a soloist and with this tour, I feel as if it do or die.  Please your audience, take them to that magical place with you or get off the stage.

When developing a dance the first thing to consider is the music choice.  The piece of music has to dance it self out for you.  It is most important for me to connect to the emotions in the song.  I see from the schedule that this will be a power tour stopping in close to six cities a week.  That means the music has to be so good and so beautiful that emotional connection is never lost even with night after night performance.  Currently, I have a couple of pieces in mind but I will keep them a secret for now : )

Next, but I believe equally as important is the fashion.  What costume, what color, what designer, what accessory????  This is one of my favorite parts of Oriental dance, the costuming.  I like to work with designers to create something unique and in the vision for the dance peice.  At the studio now I have an oh so yummy, pinkish~ nude watery material.  I can hear it calling out to me “Stefanya enwrap me in your body, encrust me with jewels and let us dance together.”  I guess this week I will be calling a couple of designers, asking prices and making a decision on who I will colaborate with.  Don’t worry I will keep you posted on that as well. : )

Alright beautiful people time to put the computer down and get to work.  This weeks goals is to narrow my music choices and get on some awesome ideas for costumes.  I will let you know what comes of it all.  Happy dancing to you and lots of belly love.

    A few new fun Picts.

These are some fun pictures I got developed just the other day.  I have a fun Lomo camera that shoots fisheye style.  I really like Miles’s serious face in this first one.  He must be thinking of his new scheme.  A good contrast to Sonia’s serene expression.

    SABAH´S WEEKLONG
